Transfer Hell

Okay, so I’m attempting to transfer @ the semester from The Theatre School at DePaul to Michigan State but they’re telling me that transfer students have to have taken college algebra. I just started college this fall but even if I waited, I will never have taken/had time to take college algebra because I’m in a theatre conservatory.I’m taking 22 credits right now and should get 6 A’s and 1 B. In high school I had a 3.5 GPA and a 30 ACT with part time jobs, student government, 3 years BPA States, internship for a state representative, quiz bowl, involvement in over 20 plays and 3 independent films, finalist in the Wharton Center Young Playwrights Festival and my dad is on the faculty at MSU. My GPA wasn’t so stellar but I’m pretty sure I would have gotten in if I applied last year but I thought I wanted to do theater so I didn’t. Has anybody found a way to get around the stupid transfer requirements/ knows who I should talk to? Thanks a lot

How about contacting a general admissions (office) counselor? Unlike U-M and a number of more balkanized universities, MSU traditionally admits to the general university, and then looks to see if there’s space in the particular program. It used to be that, if you couldn’t get in right away, you could cool your heels in a less competitive major, then transfer later. Although, I’m talking 15 years ago when I was there, not today – it is considerably more competitive. I didn’t transfer in, either.
