transfer in spring to BU or get associate degree

My son visited Binghamton and really liked it. He wants to transfer in this spring. He’s currently in his fall semester of his 2nd year at community college. Is is better for him to stay where he is and finish there to get the associate’s degree or just transfer the credits to BU? BU doesn’t look at how your actual classes transfer till your accepted. I heard that the associate’s degree transfers more easily and you keep the classes.

First you and he should check the articulation agreements with Bing

I would recommend waiting until he completes the associates and transfer the degree. It increases his chances of being admitted, because he has completed an associates and is going to a 4 year school. This way it will be a cleaner process and he will not lose credits.

You can check here regarding transfer credits

This could be important from a financial aid perspective as TAP/Excelsior scholarship only covers 4 years, whether or not you complete the degree.

Thanks for the reply. He currently goes to Queensborough CC and Bing doesn’t have an agreement with them. I searched a few of his classes but mostly all of them don’t come up. His GPA is 3.75 and is doing well in his current semester. We also aren’t eligible for any financial aid. He already sent in an app a week or two ago so we might just have to wait and see. I would like to see what credits he loses before he would get in to see if it’s worth it. From the impression I got when we visited on a tour they don’t look at them till your accepted.
