Transfer into UNC:CH, Ohio State, Texas @ Austin.

I am graduating from my local community college this semester. These are my top 3 choices/reach school. I am majoring in Finance (or Management Conc. in Finance) and Arabic.

U of Texas @ Austin

U of NC @ Chapel Hill

Ohio State

I am receiving my associate’s degree in Business Administration from the local community college with a 3.91/GPA in December 2006. I am a member of Phi Theta Kappa. I have won awards/scholarship for excellence in business and dedication to my community. I have taken a full load (18 credits) while working 40-50 hours a week.

Most schools I believe don’t check my high school record. But anyways

I’m studying abroad in Costa Rica in Spring 2007 for 3-4 months through an intensive language program that grants 3 credits every two weeks.

What are my chances at my top choices and what are some other schools I should look into.

Geez, I know that for UT-Austin it’s almost impossible to transfer into McCombs from OOS. The admit rate is around 5%. The average GPA of the admitted applicant is 3.94. The last 4 years they have only accepted 6-18 students per year, and they receive around 150 applications per year. You have a very good application but it’s real difficult, however I think you stand a chance to be one of the few.

UNC-Chapel Hill is not too hard to transfer into. I think the admit rate is around 40%. Remember though that for Kenan Flagler you have to enroll in CAS for a semester, and then go to the B-School. I am not too aware with OSU transfer but overall their admissions aren’t too difficult.

Thanks, I will keep that in mind. If I were accepted into UNC, I think I have to complete one Calculus course for prereq. fulfillment. I can get started on my language major while doing that. Thanks for you knowledge.

Wow you have an incredible workload! 40-50 hours and a full courseload? That’s insane.

I think you’re a great applicant, but like A2Wolves said, McCombs accepts VERY few OOS applicants. If you go to McCombs’ website, you can view the # of applicants overall, # accepted overall, # applied/accepted in state and OOS. I think overall they took a/b 80 people last year, and 70 of them were in state.

I think you’ll easily get into UNC - CH. Good luck.

Thank a lot bran_182.

Yeah I’ve always had to work a lot. Last semester I was pulling all nighters at least 1 a week. This semester I’m going to take it easy and only work 35 hours a week. I have my own apartment, so I have to work a lot.

Any private schools, anyone think I should look into.

My major is Finance and major or minor in Arabic.

Penn
MIT
Notre Dame
NYU
Emory
Carnegie Mellon
Cornell
Washington U St. Louis
USC
Georgetown

yes i’ll be applying to WUSTL as well. They have a high transfer rate for such a great university (33% last year) and I’ve heard they give preference to 2 year students.

Wow, do you think I have a chances at some of those schools? I don’t think I will try for a IVY league but Emory, Georgetown and WUSTL seem like good reaches. Don’t know how they treat transfers from CC, but from what you said from your post it sounds good.

Does anyone know about Carnegie Mellon in Qatar? What’s that all about?

I’m a NY state resident so maybe Cornell will look twice at me??

I want to move to a warmer climate, Upstate New York, it’s winter 9 months of the year. Brrr.

Thanks again!

I’m going to take a year off starting Fall 2007. I will return back to school Fall 2008, hopefully as a Junior. However, I am going to go to school part time to increase my math. Right now I’m only in Precalc, and I’m going to recieve my 2 year degree this semester. I want to complete Calc II. Also I’m going to take one or two accounting courses and complete Arabic 1 2 and 3.

Should I apply to all schools for Fall 2007, even though I have no intention of attending. Do you think it will hurt my chances if I take a year off to get into transfer schools?

This is what I plan on doing.

Spring 2007- Costa Rica Study Abroad
Fall 2007- Disney Professional Internship (Relating to Finance)
Spring 2008- Part Time Studies.
