Thats amazing!
Another reason to go to UCMerced…

I got into UCLA for Fall 2008, from UC Merced.

wow Premed4life, did u get in through a 2 year transfer or The Graduate school of UCLA

Hey, I was just wondering, doesn’t part of the criteria for transferability depend on your major as well? I’m not sure what percentage, if any, but it would seem logical for the major to factor in greatly for admittance.

For instance, if I wanted to transfer from UCM to UCB with my major as Biology, wouldn’t that be extremely more difficult than if my major was something not impacted? Would they even consider such transfers into majors that are already highly competitive in the transfer school?

If they do, awesome. I’ll be attending UCM in the fall with hopes of transferring to UCB or UCLA. I just hope my major (as of right now Political Science), doesn’t break any chance that I might have in transferring. Can anyone elaborate for me please?

Thanks.

This is probably because of the shared experience program which is a guaranteed admission and would a good percentage of ucm probably has these students, and which is a lot when were only talking about transfers.

What’s the shared experience program? How do u get in?

Taken from the UC Merced website:

Shared Experience Program

UC Merced will participate in a special UC program designed to admit academically qualified students who meet UC admissions requirements but cannot be accommodated by one or more other UC campuses to which they applied. The Shared Experience Program will allow such talented students to enroll at UC Merced through the end of their sophomore year and then transfer to their original campus of choice, if they wish, provided they meet the program’s academic requirements.

[U</a> C Merced - UC Merced Reports Record Numbers of Applications and Admission Offers for Fall 2007 Freshman Class](http://www.ucmerced.edu/news_articles/03302007_uc_merced_report_record.asp)

I believe you are offered it when you apply to other UC’s. It’s guaranteed admission to the school of your choosing, just you have to stick out your GE years at Merced in hopes you’ll stay and expand the growing campus.

Thanks for the explanation

sorry, but i can’t find the Shared Experience page on the UC Merced page, where is it?

Here’s the UCM web site, but I’m not sure they’re doing it this year… when they did it a few years back, it was by invitation only:

https://cep.ucmerced.edu/se/</a></p>

And here’s the UC web site info. Again, I’m not sure the program is open to Fall 2009 freshmen:

http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/paths_to_adm/sharedexperience.html</a></p>

My question is why would you go to UC Merced and pay 27,000 per year for 2 years to transfer to your preferred UC when you could do a TAG program at a JC and be guaranteed the same transfer while paying about $4000. per year

well one thing is that UCB and UCLA don’t have those programs so you aren’t guaranteed if you go to a JC. so, people might think it’s better to go to UC merced and transfer cause atleast you’re at a UC in the first place…

also, they might want to get away from their parents. experience living on your own…

Yeah, the shared experience program this year was with UCB. It’s called Bear to Bobcat and you had to get rejected from Berkeley, but invited to the program on your rejection page.

staten… the reason that i would say to avoid going to a JC, is that first of all at a JC, you will have to live in apparent because no JC will give you housing, and the housing experience is a great way to learn meet and grown as a student. To be honest at most UC’s if you tell them that you are a transfer student from a JC you are look down apon, and the last reason is that if you go to a JC you are taking a risk, because if you mess up at a JC then you wont be able to go to a UC, but if you are already at a UC, then you can just decided to stay there if things go wrong, it’s more of a better back up plan.

Its harder to transfer from UC Merced to UCLA, a LOT harder. There are plenty of apartments near CC’s where transfer kids live at, which gives a close enough experience to “dorm life” without having to live in an armpit of a city called Merced. No one “looks down” at transfer students, but if they do snicker at JC transfers, they must also snicker at “UC Merced” transfer students; you guys aren’t that much better off LOL. Honestly, even UCSD profs want to dismiss your school.

Umm… maybe I’m looking at the link incorrectly, but the 43.07% seems to be coming from UCSB, not UCM. In fact, it appears that UCM is the second lowest out of the UCs, with a 35.71% (which is still pretty good, however).

haha, yeah when that was first posted i guess they made a typo, because the sitistcs said that for merced, haha… i guess it was too good to be true

From what I heard from an UC admissions officer that came to my high school, she said that currently with the budget cuts they are cutting seats for anything other than A CC transfer. She said the best way for ANY transfer is to attend a CC and sign a TAG agreement. She specifically said if you choose to attend UC Merced and try to transfer to another UC its nearly impossible as of now. She also said colleges prefer transfers over incoming freshmans.

Just a little heads up. :)
