Transfer negotiating for more finaid

D has been accepted to transfer school as a sophomore. She has about a 3.7 as a freshman at current school which is easily the academic equivalent of transfer school. She’s been offered a $7K scholarship. Had she been a freshman, she would have automatically been offered $8K minimum based solely on her high school record. Anyone have a similar experience? It seems like we have a valid negotiation point in that she’s a proven commodity at the college level. Is it better if parents or student negotiate with finaid office?

first of all you never use the word negotiate when talking to the FA people.

But she is not a freshman so I think you may have to chalk it up as a lost opportunity so it really would not make for a valid point at this stage.

Personally, I think she is very fortunate as it is very hard to get scholarhsip money, especially merit aid as a transfer student as the monies are usually used to woo freshmen.
