Transfer Open House

Are all transfer students invited to attend an open house before being accepted?

My d got an email inviting her to something called a day at carolina. Is that what you are referring to? I also wondered if all transfer applicants got that email.

Yeah! That’s the same e-mail I received. I wasn’t sure if all transfer students are invited or what. Is your d a sophomore transfer or a junior transfer?

She’s a rising sophomore. What is interesting is that she hasn’t actually filed her application. She had called one of the transfer admissions advisors because she had a couple of questions. Perhaps they made a notation of her call and invited her on that basis. I’m really not sure. My d had a hard time when she logged on to her unc page finding the place to register. Any suggestions?

When you log onto your homepage you will notice at the top left hand corner it says Important Dates just for You. Look below that and you should see in black print “You have been invited to an event. Click here to view your invitation.” I am also a sophomore transfer. Best of luck to your daughter.

Thanks for your reply cconway0…I think she found the registration info. One more thing…are you in-state or oos? My understanding is that for transfers it is an equal playig field, unlike the 82% in state quota they fill for freshman applicants. But at the same time, I also understand they are trying to accept a lot more kids coming from Carolina Junior/Community colleges. My d is oos and she is trying to get in from a 4 year school…UW-Madison…What’s your situation and do you know if I have all of the above info correct?

I am almost positive that being in-state or oos doesn’t play role in the admissions decision but just have your daughter call admissions to clarify. When I went on the campus tour I believe they said it was only important for freshman admissions. Although I have heard that they have an agreement with the community colleges. I am actually from PA and just moved to NC this past summer. I was attending a 4yr school in NC but wasn’t pleased with the school and left. I am now attending a community college and hope to be attending Carolina in the fall.

Thanks and I wish you all the best as you apply to UNC! May a thick envelope await you on the 21st of April!
