Hello,
I am deciding on whether I should finish my Freshman application, or wait until March and apply transfer.

I am a 17 year old, who while still in high school, has been taking community college (College of Southern Idaho) classes for three years. Next semester I will be graduating from both high school and CSI (with three associate degrees). I contacted an admissions officer about my situation, and they recommended that I apply transfer. However, would my chances of getting into UChicago be crippled if I DID apply transfer (4.0 at CSI, 3.98 at high school). Also, would it be weird to be a 17 year old sophmore/junior?

BONUS QUESTION:
Would it be workable to take improv classes at The Second City and still be a full-time student?

I think it won’t matter, BUT and this is a BIG BUT, transfer students are last man on the totem pole as far as HOUSING choices are concerned.- they get last dibs on housing. My son was a transfer this year to Chicago, and he, along with all the 40 other transfer students, were stuck in a small apt building 12 long blocks from the center of campus. This made getting to know other students very difficult. So if you have a choice- apply as a Freshman, and mention your wish to be housed with other freshman ON CAMPUS as a reason for you decision.

That’s not where they housed Transfers this year. They were all in Stony Island. If this year’s freshman class is once again overenrolled, which has happened twice in the last 2 years, then , unless there is a change of policy by the head of admissions. transfers again be placed in the last available housing available.

Freshmen can’t transfer as many credits, but it is still not that hard to graduate in three years, so it would be a big advantage to apply as a freshman.
