Haven’t seen a general post seeking to hear about great experiences transferring at any particular colleges or universities. Some schools seem to have really strong cohorts and seamless support systems, wraparound orientations, while at others students may get lost in the mix. Anyone have stories to share about schools (of any size) that do it right? What to look for to know that students can have a good entry and adjustment as a transfer student? Things to think about when entering a school after most people have already made friends and housing arrangements? Any “points-to-consider”? And although many transfer admissions policies are need-aware, any comments on transfers getting merit awards?
It’s just one school and story but I know @AnonMomof2 has had a great experience transferring from one LAC to another.
And of course, some publics, are regularly fed kids from community college as a norm - so they might work well in this regard.
Tx!
My daughter had an excellent transfer process with St. Olaf college. However, she only had one semester at another school under her belt so they let her choose to join a Freshman orientation group and she lives in a freshman dorm, although technically she became a sophomore in January. I don’t know how it would go for a Junior, which is a common transfer point. Although St. Olaf is an incredibly welcoming school that provides tons of on campus social activities and is 100% residential, I imagine it would also be a good experience transferring later. They do only accept about 20ish transfers so it wouldn’t be a large cohort.
