transfer question & my story for essay

So I’ve been through 4 different high schools through out my high school career, currently I am a senior. Every year I changed schools in the middle and because of that my grades fluctuated a lot, and my gpa is probably somewhere in the low 80s last time I checked it was a 3.25 or something. I’ve been on the honor roll, and as important as junior year is, it was the worst for me,I ended up failing my chemistry and forensics class and grades went up and down alotttt in my ap classes. Took 2 aps last year and taking 4 this year. I took the sats in june and didn’t do so well, a 1350 =X combined, I plan on taking them again in december. I really want to go to NYU, so far my plan is to go a cuny school my first year and get my gpa up then transfer. I’m on the fence about applying to NYU because of my high school gpa & my sat score, which I will take again. How much are your high school stats weighted as a transfer student? Sometimes I feel like taking a chance and applying because I know the essay makes a big difference and I can write a really good essay about my life and what I’ve been through and my family. My moms an international relations professor, my dads a human rights activist who was jailed for 8 years in pakistan as a political prisoner, he was the human rights advisor of former PM benazir bhutto. We were forced to leave the country because my dad was a muslim man helping christian and other minorities in pakistan, he helped 2 christian men flee the country because of a false case against them in which they were sentenced to death. He has now started his own NGO for human rights. My mom also taught in Loyola University in Chicago and was on many news shows. Still we have a lot of financial and family problems, being the only child I was always forced to be put in to my parents fights which lasted all night and I had to miss school. I don’t have the money for NYU even though my mom has many contacts. My only hope is scholarship which I doubt or go to CUNY and save money.

So getting back to the original question, how much are high school stats weighted for transfers? & considering my story that I would write for an essay, should I apply anyway?

Thanks for answers/help!

& if my mom were to start teaching at schools like NYU or Columbia would I get in regardless of grades?

I know there is some benefit to having a parent as a professor, but it won’t get you in automatically (at least to my knowledge), I’m not an expert on NYU admissions so I can’t answer the original question, but yeah if your mom taught at NYU it would definitely help.

My parent is a professor, it is NOT an automatic in. Some people say they judge you even harder if you have a faculty parent, but I have no idea if that’s true or not.
