transfer questions (CC to out of state?)

I just finished my first year of CC in Washington State. Have a 3.36 GPA that I hope to get up to around a 3.5 next year.

What is the transfer process going to look like? Should I be applying in fall? How do I know if my credits will transfer to out of state schools? I play on the school soccer team and will most likely have a few options to play soccer at smaller schools. However part of me wants to go to the best school I can for academics.

Transferring with a 3.3 - 3.5 where can I go out of state that’s considered a prestigious school? Can I even do that. In the process of joining the honor’s society so hopefully that helps in some regard.

Can anyone shed some light on my situation for me. Sorry if not worded the best or unclear but any help appreciated.

For the most part, CC’s have great resources for students, which allows for a smoother transfer process. Hopefully you’ve already had at least a couple of productive conversations with your counselor. That being said, while this forum can provide great insight on transferring, you really should go and sit down with your counselor and ask some of these questions.

Question, are you currently playing NCAA soccer? If so I have slightly different advice for you. I know quite a few NCAA players (even one who played soccer!) who have transferred in the past.

3.3-3.5 is generally not a competitive GPA for “prestigious” out of state schools. You’re going to have to boost your GPA to a 3.6+ to even be considered.

Assuming I’m doing the math correctly, by fall you should be finishing up your last year in CC, no? You absolutely should apply in fall.

Again, you really need to sit down with your counselor. Keep in mind, they have a much more complete picture of your academics, so they can inform you more what schools would be prudent to apply to. They also will be able to better inform you of the credit transfer process.
