Transfer Questions

I was recently invited to join Phi Theta Kappa. I am currently on spring break, but I expect to turn in my membership paperwork on Monday, March 19th. After I am an official member of PTK, should I contact the colleges, so that I can have that information added to my application?

I’ve been worried about a poorly-written recommendation. The professor sloppily hand wrote the recommendation, misspelled “consistently” with an “a”, and crossed out a word. It does not look professional. On one Common App question, he didn’t read it carefully. He wrote that I have attend my cc for 2 years (I’ve attended for 1 year), instead of writing how long he’s known me as the question asks. Plus, he wrote that one of the courses I’ve taken with him was 200-level (it’s 100-level).

I panicked and asked another professor to send out a recommendation for me. The colleges now have 3 recommendations for me. Can I have that recommendation removed from my application? If so, would it hurt my chances of getting accepted if I do?

My top choice is Amherst, so I’m worried.

Yes, send them an email with your new status as PBK.

You can call the colleges about the LOR and see what they say, but no one here can tell you whether or not schools will replace one with another, or what it will do to your chances.

Congratulations on attaining the PTK designation. It isn’t easy. You absolutely should inform the college to which you applied. You probably have a contact already and can send them an email or scan your certificate and email it.

Some colleges (not all unfortunately) might even add a little money to your scholarship for attaining the honor.

Congratulations again!
