Transfer Questions

Hello. I am currently a first year undergraduate student at Syracuse University doing computer art/animation. I am thinking about applying to UCs or CSUs for comp sci. I have many questions!

-How would I get started in the application process for transfer students/when is the deadline? Is it very similar to the process when applying for college as a senior in high school?
-Does getting accepted to a school I applied for mean that I must transfer?
-I heard colleges take collegiate academics into account more heavily than high school grades/SAT scores, but 12/16 of my current credits are studio/art classes and the other class is Calculus. Will this effect my chances of getting accepted since I only have one practical class?
-Will I basically have to start anew since my credits most likely will not transfer?
-Can I transfer in by fall of next year of do I need a certain amount of transferable credits?
-If I apply to a UC for comp sci and get accepted, does that mean I am automatically in the major since UCs are impacted?

Thanks for the help! I’m sure I’ll have many more questions.

No, getting accepted doesn’t mean you have to transfer there. It’s the same situation as applying out of high school.
UC’s and CSU’s don’t take your SAT’s or high school grades into account at all if you are applying as a junior transfer, which is the best time to apply. It’s way more competitive and difficult to get into those schools as a sophomore transfer– most of them don’t even allow it.
You could transfer in to a UC for next fall if you have 60 transferrable credits by the end of spring, but you would have to apply by the 30th of this month. I believe the CSU application deadline has already passed.
The application process from a four year can be a bit more confusing than for those in community colleges. For CSU’s you are expected to have taken a course in english composition, one speech course, one course in critical thinking and one math course. Take a look around the UC website to see what you’ll need to do.
