I have been going to a private boarding school with a pretty good reputation for three years, but now I’m thinking about transferring to a private day school near my house for my last year. The new school has an alright reputation, but it’s not as prestigious, and I’m worried that colleges will be less inclined to accept me for not finishing out four years at the same high school. My GPA is about a 3.6, and I want to get into Richmond early decision, so I might be willing to stick it out and not switch schools if it will affect their decision to accept or deny me. I do not really want to explain my reasons for switching in depth because it’s personal, and I hope colleges won’t judge me for that. The whole thing is pretty confusing, and I’m just not sure which school I should choose. The only thing I know Is that i’ll do anything to get into Richmond. What do you guys think about this?
Have you looked at your school’s Naviance info on Richmond? If it’s really good you should think hard about sticking out this last year.
If you are applying ED, then ED decision will be made based on your GPA record so far. Your senior year will barely matter at all. Contact the teachers now who you want to have write your letters of recommendation.
Many students find they have to transfer for their senior years. If you have a good reason for transferring that won’t be a problem for your college applications.
But to be perfectly honest, I’m worried about this: “The only thing I know Is that i’ll do anything to get into Richmond.”
It is fine that you have a first choice, but you need to build a bigger application list. What is so special about Richmond that you would “do anything” to get admitted there?
