Hi, so I’m not going to bother everyone with long anecdotes of my life, I find that painful.
Here is basic info about me:
Current year: Soph (trying to transfer Junior)
Current school: Jacksonville University
Involvement: RA, Honors College, College Dems, Rotaract,
Sport: Crew
GPA: 3.5 UW
Major: TBD
Preferences/needs:
Region: South (anything south/near FL)
Size: Less than or equal to 20k
Weather: < FL humidity
Sport: Swimming [Any division/club team will do]
Frat/sorority friendly
Has an Honors College
I’m currently looking at Tulane, Rice, Georgia Tech, UPITT, and WASHU. My goal is to not pay more than 20k a year if I can help it-I escaped high tuition through Honors and I’m hoping I can continue doing that.
Any insight/opinions/advice from other transfers is greatly appreciated. Thanks
You’re not going to get to your cost goals with GT or Upitt…those are public univs who won’t give much/any aid to an OOS transfer student.
Have you looked to see how much aid you’d get from the others as a transfer student? Those schools’ aid will be need based, not merit based. Run the NPCs on each website. Hopefully, they have the option to notate that you’d be a transfer student, since aid is often less for transfer students.
Do NOT cut ties with your current Univ until you see the financial offers from the others. Continue to register for classes, etc. Too many transfer students cut ties (do not register for following semester) once they get accepted to their new school. However, transfer students don’t usually see their aid pkgs until later (sometimes mid summer) and then they find out that they didn’t get much aid…and have no place to go.
Regarding the $20k per year…is that what your parents have said that they will pay each year?? If not, where would that come from?
How much is your net cost at Jville?
Why aren’t you including UFlorida??
What is your major and career goal? With your school choices, I’m thinking maybe eng’g or CS
Hi, mom2collegekids! Thanks for getting back to me!
In terms of aid, I’m getting fairly limited-I’m only really getting Bright Futures, FRAG-no FAFSA.
I say 20K because thats the ideal situation so I won’t have to be taking out any loans by graduation. They’re currently paying out of pocket right now. My current net cost is 12K(+/-).
I’m not really looking at BIG schools like UF-even thinking about that many people makes me queasy.
Yeah, the majority of the schools I’m looking at are huge engineering-based, even though I’m on the complete other side of the spectrum. I’m still taking general classes because I’m so fickle in choosing my major-I literally have changed it 11 times.
As of today, I’m torn between Marketing, Management, Sociology, and Psychology. I’ve been taking personality tests to try to find careers that best fit my personality but so far its a no-go.
I think it may be best for you to stay at Jacksonville University until you figure out what career you’d like to pursue.
