Transfer Student for 3/15/16 of next year

Unfortunately, I was denied from thirteen prestigious schools such as Duke, Vandy, Rice, USC, UNC, UCLA, etc…
Every single one of them turned me down, but it was mostly because I had poor essays. My ACT score is a 32 composite. I have a 3.9 GPA (unweighted) and I take all AP/Honors classes that are offered at my public high school. I am in the top 5% of my graduating class and am captain of the swim team, president of Mu Alpha Theta and also hold many state board positions and I am very involved. I will be attending Louisiana State University for the year of 2015-16 but i would LOVE to transfer to one of those schools, but my number one is Duke University.

I took private classes and took extra help on writing a better essay with strong views that keep a clear message. Although my passion for wanting Duke is strong, It will be difficult to get in as a transfer student. Would anyone possibly give me any assistance on being a successful transfer applicant on what classes I should take for the Pratt School of Engineering for my freshmen year? (I contacted senior admissions to no avail). Also, what should i get myself involved in at school and go out of my way to do that will stand out? I really want a second chance at a better future and I am very lost and confused… Any help is accepted

Thank you

I do not know enough about transferring to assist you, but I do wish you good luck.

I can’t help you out here, but I can say I am currently in your shoes. Good luck, keep strong, keep believing in yourself. I have spent a year at a public university now waiting for my decisions. I’m so nervous.

Possibly someone that has gotten in has some input on what they did?

Your ACT score was simply too low for Pratt. The 25th percentile ACT for Pratt was 33. So being a 32, you probably were in the 15-20th percentile.

So the first suggestion is to improve your standardized test scores. However when applying as a transfer they will probably focus more on your college GPA instead.
