Transfer Student Registering For Classes

Hey guys looking for some help here. Firstly when did you other transfer students get to register? I was told at orientation I would be able to register by the 18th. However I went on earlier today (the 17th) and I could already register. Could I have registered even earlier?

Also I’m curious about class choices of you all. How many units are most of you taking? How many UD classes? Any fun classes?

I’m taking two UD classes so far, and one weight lifting class for fun. Going to call an adviser tomorrow, and then register some more classes.

Also for those of you who accepted federal loans. How long did it take to affect your BARC balance. Also did your PELL Grant immediately affect it or did that take time?

Thanks in advanced! Best of luck to all UCSB transfer out there!

I’m a history major transfer student. My undergraduate adviser told me to take 3 classes (12 units). He said take 2 classes for my major and 1 other class towards my minor for example. Considering I’m moving away from home and new to the quarter system, not to mention a UC is going to much harder then a junior college, I don’t think its a bad idea to have an easy first quarter. However, next quarter I will probably take 4 classes (16 units). As far as taking a class for fun, I really wanted to take fencing but its full. So I guess I need to find another fun class. Any suggestions?

As far as registration goes, it says mine will become available August 18th starting at 9pm. So now I’m just waiting hoping at least one of the classes I want wont fill up.

Thanks a lot for the response man, that is exactly what I was thinking. I registered two classes for my major, then a weight lifting class just to keep in shape/for fun.

I’m looking to add one more class in September, but I know a lot will be full so we will see.

I can’t get in a history class for the life of me, and I need to take four, so hopefully I can get lucky and crash one.

I couldn’t register until my pass time which was 7:30 p.m. on August 18th.

I am taking 4 classes because I’m trying to double major. Two are upper division for the major I was accepted into, English. Two are lower division so I can break into Communication.

Why is my first date September 7th!?

KINGTUT:

I couldn’t tell you why but try contacting your academic advisor (for your major) to get add codes for classes that you want. These will allow you to “break into” classes that are already full. If your academic advisor won’t give them to you, try contacting the professor of that class and see if they will. Be warned that not all advisors / professors will hand out add codes - so if you still can’t get into the classes that you want, try crashing the course during the first day of class. Good luck!

Kingtut, My 2nd Pass time was Sept. 7 a few weeks ago also. I was confused about it since I was told at orientation it was supposed to be Aug. 18. About a week before Aug. 18 came around my 2nd pass time changed from Sept. 7 to Aug. 18. I don’t know the reason, but if you did not attend orientation that could be it.

That is so odd! My date has always been September 7th! I did not attend orientation but met with my adviser at an earlier date… they were no help putting me in classes or making suggestions. Yet, emailing the registrar and pleading my case allowed me to get help from someone in their office. My adviser seems quite clueless to be honest. Oh well! I have two classes now thanks to the registrar… just cannot wait until the 7th because a class I need has literally one spot left at this time.

I have bugged a few professors already and am on a couple waiting lists. So, we’ll see. Good luck to everyone getting their classes. This has been so stressful!
