Transfer Suggestions Please

Greetings All!

I’m a non-traditional URM female pursuing a bachelor of science in Computer Science at a tiny (less than 1000 students) historically black LAC that has had no accreditation issues. My cumulative and major GPA is 3.4 and after summer session ends in 2 weeks will be higher. If it matters, this will be my second degree.

I’ve been at this college one school year and I’ve been very successful in that year here, having earned a scholarship for next year and offered a paid internship in the fall with one of my math/physics/comp-sci professors. HOWEVER, due to the size of the school and faculty I’m only getting a very basic CS degree. A handful of elective courses listed in the catalog haven’t been offered in at least the last two years, and because of the administration’s aversion to spending money (which we have) the CS dept doesn’t have the tech and resources to make us as competitive as our peers from other schools. There was no way to know any of this until I got here.

So, now I’m looking to transfer. I know it’s late in the application season, but I also know a lot of schools have later or rolling deadlines for transfer students. I want to get into the best school that I still can apply to at this point. Florida State is on my list so far. Any other recommendations? Thank you.

You might look into some of the less selective AITU schools if you don’t mind Northern climes. They mostly have very strong CS programs and some have rolling admissions for transfer students. They tend to be smaller schools much like the one you are in now but the course offerings in CS are far more extensive.

Thank you for your reply. But why should I consider a less selective school with a GPA that’s going to be above a 3.5 in a couple of weeks? I’m not looking to go to an Ivy or another LAC, but surely there are selective universities with national name recognition that are still accepting transfer students?
