Transfer to a national university from a LAC

Hi all,
I am an international student and currently I am a freshman in a lac(depauw). I plan to transfer to purdue or osu in the next semester due to the intense racism here. My gpa is around 3.6. What’s my chance? Also, I heard that it’s not easy for transfer credits from a lac to public schools. My school almost calculate every course as 1 credit hour, and I know it is different in public schools. Can everyone give me some suggestions?

Transfer if you need a different environment.

DePauw is an extreme example of an LAC dominated by Greek life (fraternities & sororities). Washington & Lee is another LAC dominated by Greek life.

Undoubtedly, you will be more comfortable at a Big Ten university such as Purdue or Ohio State University due to the sheer size of the student bodies as well as the diversity found on both campuses.

If you are accepted as a transfer student, you will be given a preliminary evaluation of transferable credits. The final determination will be made after you enroll and submit your final transcript from your original college or university. To help that process, keep all of your textbooks, course syllabi, and graded work that has been returned to you.

If your classes at DePauw are in “units”, and you have four one-unit courses each semester, then it is most lileky that each unit will convert to four semester hours of credit. If you look at your transcript, that type of conversion information might even be right on it somewhere.

As for the racism on campus, have you spoken with anyone in authority about that? The administration and the counseling center might not be able to see what you do, and it certainly isn’t your job to fix things, but they may be able to take action when they know what is going on.
