Im currently at NYIT (Second semester of bio major) and got a 4.0 on both semesters. currently im an si instructor for chemistry 110 and can tutor for calc 1, bio 1, chem 1 and hopefully organic chemistry next semester. I did my high school in brazil so I got a poorly 1300 in my sats (didn’t have quality preparation since nobody in brazil cares about sats, its not used in universities over there). What are my real chances in your opinion to get into columbia?
I don’t think what you did in HS matters anymore after 2 full semesters, I could be wrong on that though.
A 4.0 at NYIT is pretty nice, I’d apply for sure - list that you’re a minority as well. I know people who have gotten in Columbia with less.
Do you have any extracurriculars worth noting?
Yes, I will definitely list that I’m a minority as a International student. I volunteer at ASPCA (american society for the prevention of cruelty to animals) and currently just got asked by a professor to work with her in research for cancer in city college. Im also looking to volunteer in a hospital. Im also in the presidential’s list of nyit. Besides that just being an supplement instructor for chemistry 110 and all the tutoring I do, as I mentioned before. Thanks for your response, by the way.
I think you can get in, you seem like Ivy League material.
hey @Stephanie26, how does the application go ? I am also considering to transfer there.
