Transfer to Ivies easier from which schools?

Grades and scores being equal, from which schools is it easier to transfer to Ivies

Other Ivies

T20

Tier 2+

community colleges

and why?

Four-year private schools.

State schools.

Community colleges.

The academic standards at Ivies are most comparable to those of other four-year private schools. State schools and community colleges are slightly less so.

That said, it’s possible to transfer to anywhere from anywhere, just harder from lower ranked schools/community colleges.

So, easier to transfer from a Tier 3 private than from Cal? That sounds quite counterintuitive.

I think it’s more like:

1) Four-year top private schools
2) Four-year top state schools
3) Tier 2+ private/public
4) Community colleges

Yeah, I think it’s important to note that private does not equal prestigious. “Public Ivies” like Cal, UCLA, UVA, UNC-Chapel Hill, UTexas will irrefutably trump a private school like Bob Jones University, so we should differentiate among 4-year privates, and also, 4-year state schools.

Of course, I should have added that.

Penn State is a public ivy isn’t it??

dzirob33,

Penn State is a state subsidized school in PA. In is of the same caliber as University of Pittsburg and Temple University (philly). It is not in the PSAC (PA state school system) nor is it private. PSU is a public state subsidized university which means it recieves some funds from state and some from private donations etc

That didn’t answer my question. I asked if people considered Penn State to academically be a public ivy. I know PSU is slightly better than Pitt and a lot better than Temple. PSU is a tier 1 school but the question is: can it be considered a “public ivy” and therefore a better school to transfer into an Ivy?

Well, if it helps, Penn State doesn’t stack up with Berkeley, Mich, UCLA, UVA, or the like. So no.

Some of the top schools seem to prefer taking transfer students from community colleges. I thought it was either Stanford or Yale[one of those small acceptance schools] that took half of the acceptees from there. I would not agree with the previous rankings given as such, but that’s just me.

where is it ranked the PSU is better than Pitt and Temple? I would say that if you go to PSU and achieve a high gpa, 3.7 or higher with good ECs you will have a shot at an IVY

^It’s Stanford. I would agree with the general idea here though, for the Ivies in general.
