I am currently a rising sophomore at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, which I guess is considered one of the better liberal arts schools in the country. I am thinking about applying to UMass Amherst, though, to transfer, and I want to major in Journalism.

My grades in college really aren’t good (I have below a 3.0). However, much of that was due to the serious battles with both mono and depression that I had during my Freshman year. I can write an essay about all of that, and I am doing a lot better now. Also, I can try as hard as I can to ace my classes first semester this year, bring up my GPA, and show an upward trend.

My grades in high school were always very solid–I was basically a B+/A- student at an elite NYC private school. I got a 2180 on my SAT, and I am on the baseball team at Macalester–it’s not like I’m sitting around doing nothing.

I’m not a resident of Massachusetts. What do you think about my transfer chances at UMass?
