I’m currently a business student at Carnegie Mellon. I was accepted into Marshall as a high school student but chose to go to Carnegie Mellon. For simplicity’s sake, lets just say I don’t really like Carnegie Mellon and realize i made a poor decision after not having visited either school. What do you think I will need to transfer to USC as a junior? If my GPA is a low 3 do i still have a chance? Thanks for the input!

If you’re seeking to transfer into Marshall, you will need to be a competitive applicant. A 3.5 or higher will be competitive. The transfer admissions requirements are pretty clear if you look at the USC website. On the website, you can also find a list of classes you need to take to qualify for admissions into Marshall.

Also, what makes you think your experience at USC will be any better if you also haven’t visited the school? If your GPA is in the low 3s, you may find it difficult to seek admissions to a top school, only because top schools generally tend to not have either that many transfer spaces available, or if they do, business/econ departments will probably draw in the most applicants, meaning you’ll be competing against hundreds/thousands of students for limited spaces. If you’re set on business, maybe sticking it out at Carnegie will be the best option for you in terms of job prospects and connections. If the “prestige” of the school doesn’t matter, consider looking at also applying to schools a notch or two below Carnegie/USC. There are strong regional schools whose business/econ departments are heavily recruited by regional employers, even if they don’t have the “big name”. I’m thinking this is the case with most public universities.
