Transfer to UVA

hairypotty, you can be my friend at W&M, I don’t study much. Actually I should be right now… =P

GGGunit, I think that is a valid thing to consider. If you think there’s a chance of you not transfering to UVA, then I would choose W&M, since it is a very good school. However, if you know know know that you want to go to UVA, your chances of getting a high GPA are better at VT and JMU. I feel like you could probably get a 3.7+ without too much stress at those schools.

But any GPA from W&M means more. The clear choice is to go to W&M.

But with this new rule, Iis it going to be extemely hard to transfer to the U from any school besides a CC since so many more cc people are coming in.
If its just as good to do well at another liberal arts 4-year college, Why not just do that instead? I doubt that too many people would come in through CC’s( not many want to give up a 4 year school Like VA Tec, JMU, or MWU for two years at a CC, for a CC and most of the normal CC students don’t get a 3.4). But, do you think It would be worth the gamble to go to a harder school where the acceptance of a transfer is indefinite?

I can’t see any reason why a 3.4 from UMW or VT would mean any less than a 3.4 from some random CC.

I believe soccerguy’s comment is the best idea for the situation. if you’re really sure you want to transfer, AND tech or JMU fits your personality better, i personally would choose that school. i’d make a visit to each before you decide (or at least the top two). do you have two that you would be leaning towards in the decision? or which would you choose between tech and JMU?

In response the the Hebrew Hammer’s post, I believe that someone who is able to get into Tech or JMU should not lower themself to attend a community college. For all they know, they could get to JMU/tech and fall in love with the school. that way, they will get a good, solid education either way.

45 credits will not take 2 years. You could do it in two semesters or three (including the summer term).

I took 21 credits during the summer of 2005 and 25 credits during the fall of the same year at NVCC. If you pick relatively easy classes, it’s not hard to overload and maintain a solid gpa.

My question: if I finish the CCcredits in two or three semesters( the 3rd being the summer), can I enter immediatly the next starting semester, or will I have to spend a semester sitting out while I apply? It sounds like a good deal, but I would hate to spend all that time at home just because of a paper deadline.

Does the associates degree have to be completed within two years. See, I probably will take CC classes full time in senior year, but would this transfer deal be revoked if I take one or two classes toward my AA in my junior year? This transfer business is my saving grace, indeed!

call UVa and ask. the admissions staff is generally pleasant and helpful.
