hi guys- is anyone trying to transfer to yale?

If I get into WashU, I will be trying for Columbia or Yale.

Are you going for Yale? Good luck. 3% is SCARY.

I thought it was four percent?

I am applying, although I’m not expecting to get in…But here’s hoping that a Rhodes-scholar legacy will help hell freeze over!

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Lol good luck transferring to Yale.

I can’t tell if that’s an evil, sadistic laugh (likely) or just a nice laugh.

brand_182,

Some people are admitted to Columbia or Yale, but not WashU. It’s called Tuffs Syndrome.

1) You are hoping to transfer twice, and that, too, to very selective schools. It will be difficult to make the case for it, and even more so for very selective schools.
2) You will have completed three years by the time you intend to matriculate, which doesn’t look good to admissions committees at selective schools.
3) Because of residency requirements at most schools, entailing that you must spend at least two years there in order to graduate, you will be graduating a year late. This does not look good for most top law schools.

This is not the case in Brand’s situation. He’s hoping to get yet another upgrade, which is a pretty bad idea, and something about which I am very annoyed. When students get accepted into good schools, and actually matriculate, they actually get this faint notion that they could probably do better; however, there is a chance they will be admitted a higher ranked school, but transferring twice looks bad in so many ways to so many distinct admissions committees that doing so is not even worth it.

nspeds,

I think brand meant that rather than apply to his other schools like NYU etc, he would add Columbia and Yale if he heard from WashU first. Because WashU has this 30 day admission notification policy from the time your app is complete then he would presumably know his status before the Yale/Columbia deadlines. Therefore, rather than apply to some of the other schools on his list or maybe even in addition to those schools, he would add Yale and Columbia.

I don’t think he was trying to suggest a transfer AFTER he matriculated for junior status.

Transferring to Yale… (I could only wish.)

Ohhh, never mind then.

dearsiryes is correct. There is no way in hell I would plan on transferring again after this first and only time, for various reasons.

And yes, nspeds, I don’t like the attitude that “well, I’m at a great school so I may as well try for a better one either.” I would only apply to Yale because it is a school that I really, really like for many reasons, and would consider it on par with Brown and Wes in terms of my “choice” schools. The 3% transfer rate, though, is very disheartening. If I do happen to get into WashU, then I may be a better candidate than I give myself credit for and will try for Yale since you only get to do this thing once. If I’m rejected from WashU, I will apply to a couple other less selective schools. For me, it’s all about options. This is the first and only time I’ll actually be applying to schools (for undergraduate). I don’t want to leave any options out if I actually have a decent shot at a school.

Perhaps the most unfortunate thing about all of this is I haven’t visited any of the schools except NYU, and won’t get to until (if) I’m admitted. If I end up transferring to a school and hate the place, I can’t really transfer out, so I want to have many options.

I’m trying Yale out as well. It’s a dream school, and I figure that it’s either now or never, right?

hm…Yale…? sure why not ;]

c’mon people. together we can drag the acceptance rate down to 1%!

I am staying at my state school for another year and then applying to yale.

I applied to Yale as well. Maybe second time’s a charm.

Does anyone know if when Yale says they require teachers to fill out recommendations you have to use Yale’s form? I think it’s a bit ridiculous to ask your teachers to fill out, say, five different forms if you’re applying to five schools.

I asked this same question in another thread but didn’t get a response, does anyone know how strict they are about essay format? If you do something completely off-the-wall, is this positive or negative?
