Transfer - will you ever be able to get your original Meritt scholarship offer?

Hi all,

We are currently trying to decide which school my son will attend. As he has his heart set on being out of state (in the south, we are from NY), he has gotten some great Meritt offers from local NY schools. If we let him go out of state and it does not work out (say homesick or needs more academic support) my question is do schools offer Meritt scholarship money when you are an undergrad transfer student? Also, would you be able to ask for your original Meritt offer for a school you did not pick?

Thanks for any feedback!

My son received merit from a local college, chose another in state university (flagship), had a medical withdrawal, applied anc was immediately accepted into the local university, no merit.

Different schools have different practices, so your S would have to ask this question to each of the schools that offered him merit as an incoming first year. Some schools may offer the same level, some won’t. Level of merit could also depend on his GPA at time of transfer application as well. It is not uncommon though that transfers are offered less merit/discounting than incoming first years.

You cannot count on getting the same merit award as a transfer student.

School specific. Look up each transfer merit possibilities.

Needs more academic support - that won’t be a regional thing…but of course homesick could.

Hopefully it all works out at his chosen school - including a nice scholarship/cost too.
