Looking for advice. My daughter a freshman was sexually assaulted recently and had been traumatised by the event. She is unable to stay on campus and wants to transfer out.The school is being absolutely hands off saying they cant control what stidents do and if we want to transfer out we can do it but we need to figure this out and they will not help us in anyway to transfer to a sister school. This is a UC campus and wondering if there is any guidance around this unique situation to a transfer and how do i go about contacting other UCs .Any help will be appreciated
I have no advice on transferring to another UC; I don’t know anything about this, but I just want to say that I am so sorry this happened to your daughter. It is totally understandable that she would want to transfer, and I hope she gets the help she needs physically/mentally/etc. to recover. Does she have a good support system? Has she explored reporting/criminal options? I assume you have seen this: Policies | Sexual Violence Prevention & Response. Not saying she has to do anything she does not want to do esp. when she is traumatized, just putting it out there. Hugs to both of you.
She is too traumatized now to talk and ha e gotten her to talk to a Psychologist hopefully time will help her heal.We are just giving her all the love and support. Tha ks for this info i will take a look at them. Thanks for the kind words.
My heart goes out to her and your family. Sent you a PM so look for a Green Envelope on your icon.
I’m so sorry this happened to your daughter. I’m not sure if there are other channels available, but wanted to suggest two things: first, if she leaves her current campus, with or without an immediate plan, she should take steps to withdraw or request an incomplete officially to minimize the academic impact and preserve the option to return (even if that’s not something she’d consider). Second, I’d suggest having her reach out to any other UC she was admitted to last year to see if there’s an option to enroll or an easier path to transfer. Best wishes to both of you.
For withdrawals during the quarter or semester without ending up with a transcript of F or NP grades, check the deadline for such. After the deadline, they may only be allowed for medical or emergency reasons.
Incomplete grades should be avoided if the student does not intend to return, since they will convert to F or NP grades if the course work is not completed within a certain time.
Unfortunately, I have the same question. My daughter is currently hospitalized and her psychiatrist has recommended a transfer to remove her from the triggering environment. I’m so heartbroken for her.
So sorry to hear about your D’s situation.
Make sure she goes through the proper withdrawal process since if she leaves her current UC without good standing, she will not be able to transfer to another UC.
No UC school is going to accept a transfer without meeting that campus transfer requirements.
UC to UC transfers still need to meet the 60 semester/90 quarter unit minimum which includes the required UC General education and major prep requirements.
If she is not willing to continue at her current UC, then she can take the required courses at her local community college and then apply for transfer.
What is her intended major, what classes has she completed and how many credits are completed?
All California community colleges have articulation agreements with the UC’s so using assist.org, students can determine the transfer requirements for each UC campus.
Other than UCLA, UC to UC transfers are not given priority over CCC transfers so attending a CCC with a minimum 30 semester/45 quarter units will give her the CCC transfer priority.
You are welcome to PM me if you have any further questions.
