transfer?

Any thoughts on whether my daughter might be a better fit at Northwestern than where she is now? Also, any thoughts on whether transfers tend to integrate successfully into life at Northwestern? (Some schools take lots of transfers so that happens, but other schools do not.) She is a legacy of AEPHi; would that make a difference?

Here is why she does not like where she is. Daughter is quintessential smart teenager. In high school she had some friends who were academic achievers but more friends who were not. She did tons of volunteer work. She spent her free time watching movies, going to the mall and hanging out. She is smart and career-oriented.

Although she is open to new people and new ideas, she says that where she is, she has trouble finding people who do anything else but have intellectual conversations; people sneer at popular culture – going shopping, watching television, and wearing anything but sweat pants and no makeup is considered weird. Most of the people in her dorm have liberal arts majors. The people around her are nice, and her classes are terrific, but she said she feels she almost has to pretend to be a different to get along

just reading this i could probably tell you she is a good fit at northwestern

this is debatable, northwestern doesn’t have an aephi chapter and i think girl’s aren’t allowed to rush if they have already activated somewhere else, so she wouldn’t be able to join a sorority here. Many transfer girls don’t join sororities anyway.

this is nothing like northwestern, northwestern is pretty full of “normal” kids for being an academic place. a lot of kids are into sports, going out, concerts, etc.

i would advise her that if she is a very social person to not live in the transfer house if she decides to come here, but instead to live in a dorm such as bobb mcculloch or elder. the transfer house tends to be quieter and less connected to the social scene.

(OT - Northwestern did have an AEPhi chapter at one point; they were a weak house and closed, I believe, sometime in the late 80’s or early 90’s. Same for SDT)
