Transfering from Sacramento State to UC Davis

Hello all. I’m currently a Junior in high school. I plan on going to a Sacramento State (CSU) for 4 years, gain my Bachelors degree as an undergraduate, then go to a UC, most likely UC Davis as my #1 choice, and earn a Master’s degree. Would this fall under the case of Community College students transferring also…? Or is this an entirely different case? Also, would this be an incredibly difficult task to accomplish?

Sorry for the beginner questions, I absolutely know nothing about how college works.

Much thanks.

That’s not a transfer. that’s going from undergrad school to grad school. “Transfer” mostly refers to undergraduates transferring to and from different undergraduate schools.

as far as i know all you have to do is get a good GPA at Sacramento State, (maybe +3.3ish) graduate from CSU Sacramento, and then apply as a grad student to UC Davis. It won’t be a transfer because you’ll have already graduated from undergraduate college.

Also, if you go to CSU Sacramento you won’t be a community college student, you’ll be a university student…CSU’s are four year universities.

It also depends on the type of major you are pursuing. Some majors such as engineering, basic sciences (biochem, physics, etc) have higher GPA requirements for graduate schools.

So you need to be aware of your major of choice and achieve a GPA that is at least as good as the graduate school’s average GPA requirement. Because of the budget crisis in CA, it will be ever more competitive to get into a solid graduate school like UC Davis, hence you need an even better GPA in undergraduate.

As others have stated what you are talking about is not considered transferring. It is completing a degree program at one university and applying to a different university to enter a program that offers a more advanced degree.

In fact, it is common, and many would argue preferable, to obtain your graduate degree at a different university than the one where you earned your bachelor’s degree. CSU Sacramento offers BS and BA degrees in a wide variety of disciplines which have corresponding graduate programs at U.C. Davis so your plan can certainly be accomplished. You will have to study hard at Sacramento State and get a GPA of between 3.0 and 3.5 depending on your intended major since graduate programs generally only accept applicants with strong undergraduate records.
