Transfering to a top 100 private school?

I am currently a UCF undergrad student majoring in Civil Engineering. I’ve switched my major from Civil, to Electrical, to Mechanical, then back to Civil. I just got my AA after two-and-a-half years of college. I have a 3.5 gpa, w/ barely any extracurriculars on my resume. In high school I got a 23 on my ACT’s (taking it once) and graduated high honors w/ about a 3.3 gpa. I was contemplating on retaking the ACT’s (or taking the SAT’s – which I never took in HS) in college, to help me transfer to a more prestigious school. UCF is supposedly known for being the 2nd best engineering college in the state of FL, and one of the most underestimated (and best up-and-coming) engineering colleges in the country.

With all of this being said, does anybody think it would be a good idea to try to transfer to a better-known school (preferably an out-of-state private school for financial aid reasons – but I was thinking about UF), just to improve my credentials. Would this really help me that much in the long run??? If so, what are some of the better known private schools that I would have a decent chance of getting into, say I bring my ACT score up to a 27-28, or score in the 13-1400’s on the SAT when I take it in a month or so… Keep in mind – if I do transfer, it will be no sooner than the summer of 2010, after being at UCF for 3 full years (taking summer classes & all, my degree @ UCF will take me 5 full yrs if I stay).

Since you already have your AA degree, schools will not, in general, consider your ACT or SAT scores. The only stats they will consider is your college GPA.
