I will be starting community college this
upcoming school year and will be going to Mesa CC and complementing one year there. After the first year i will be moving and gping to another CC. Will everything transfer okay? How does that whole process work? Should i be taking an associates degree or just Arizona general education? Please inform and advise me, i am very ignorant and confused on the whole community college system
If you take typical General Education courses (Psych 101, Sociology 101, English 101, etc.), they should transfer easily between colleges. If you know where you are transferring to, you should look at that college’s course catalog to make sure that the Mesa courses you take match up well. You should be fine as long as you don’t take odd or esoteric courses (e.g. “16th-Century Danish Poetry”, or, “The Physics of Curling”. Since you know that you are transferring, there is no need to pursue an Associate’s degree in Arizona. Instead, you should look at the graduation requirements for an Associate’s degree of the institution you intend to transfer to, and take Mesa courses that meet those requirements. If you really want to play it safe, contact the Registrar from the school you are transferring to and list the Mesa courses you intend to take, then ask if they will transfer.
