Transfering to Yale... from another Ivy

Thinking of applying for xfer…

Ivy
2390 SAT I
35 ACT
3.96 HS GPA UW (magnet HS)
Pulling a 4.0 (freshman so far)
EC’s don’t really matter so I hear, but I’ve got published research if they care.

Reason for xfer (probably what’s gonna kill me): Spent two summers @yale for JSA… loved it. I applied to where I currently am due to location (close to home) and tuition benefits (parents employed here). I had a solid chance in HS to apply to Yale, but iono, didn’t really want to bother cause my parents would’ve not wanted to waste $. I like it here, but Yale would make me happier. Is this like, auto-reject?

I do however, love Yale’s Econ-Humanrights-ethics major, but I feel it’s a soft reason since you can basically craft that major anywhere. I really want to do pre-law, and Yale seems to be like the mecca for that, not that my current school’s pre-law program is bad at all. Iono, advice?

You might give it a shot, but keep in mind it’s typically a 2% acceptance rate. You’ll have to write a killer essay. Keep up the 4.0 and don’t bash the school you’re at now - discuss why you like Yale but don’t say that Yale is “better”.

As a Columbia student enjoying the tuition free (?) benefits which are perks of your parents employment, you have a solid reason for wanting to spread your wings in your own manner. Yale, Columbia and, hopefully, your parents will understand. It is your life, but if you require financial aid, it is Yale’s and/or your parent’s money. Even though Yale is need blind for freshmen applicants, I don’t know if it is for transfer applicants with, presumably, advanced standing. Yale may, I don’t really know, think that financial aid for transfer applicants needs to go to those who otherwise would not have an opportunity to study at such an elite school as Yale or Columbia. Best course of action would be to call Yale admissions and ask.
