So I was accepted to Brown, but currently my parents can’t afford to send me to Brown for four years. It looks like I might end up at the University of Washington. If I go there, I can transfer to Brown after like two years, right? And if so, will my original decision to go to UW instead of Brown affect my transfer application, whether positively or negatively? (I would think positively…)

If you were accepted but you can’t afford to attend on the financial aid award you received, you should definitely talk to Brown about it. Explain your concerns or any special situation, and tell them you really want to go but your financial aid award simply isn’t realistic. They may adjust it for you.

They aren’t going to adjust it. It’s need based, and they have a set system for determining your EFC and need. Unless there was something that was wrong on your fafsa, that’s your finaid package, period.

I say go to Brown. It’s such an amazing place, and getting in is an incredible blessing. Don’t forgoe to years of the experience. Once you’re there, look into independent scholarships and loans.

Yea…my original question was not about the financial aid package…cause we’re working on that.

I’m just asking about my chances for a transfer 2 years after UW. Will my decision to attend UW instead of Brown affect me when I apply to transfer?

No, but clarify that you didn’t go to Brown then because you couldn’t afford it. But transfer admission isn’t guarunteed! There’s a chance you could not get in.

Please, if it’s at all possible, go now!!!

i suggest - GO NOW. i was in the same position as you a year ago, and i made the wrong choice… i’m miserable where i am now

they DO NOT keep your application. i was mistakenly informed last year that they would keep my application for a couple of years, but i found out a couple of months ago that this was not true. you can, though, include a letter w/a transfer application and explain what happened.

if you can afford it… go!!! DO NOT do what i did; i will always regret it.

starcatch, where are you now? I got into Brown last year too went to a different school and applied to transfer to Brown for next year. Still waiting on a decision…

i didn’t apply as a transfer to brown, actually… loonnggg story, pm me if you care for the details. (i’m waiting to hear on somewhere else… again, long story)

i wish you the best of luck!!!
