Transferring and Military

I am currently enlisted in the military and will start taking classes at the local community college. Before the Military, I went to another community college in my hometown pursuing a Criminal Justice degree. I’ve completed one year before shipping off to boot camp. My GPA wasn’t that good (2.8). I now want to pursue a degree in finance/business at the community college where I am stationed. My goal is to finished my degree while in the military and transfer to a good university by time my military contract is up. I really want to go to an ivy league or at least a target school for Investment Banking. I know that Universities don’t accept people with just really good grades. I know they factor in extra curricular activities, SAT/ACT scores and so on. Do I need to take the SAT/ACT over and try to achieve a better score? Do the SAT/ACT apply to transfer students? What extra curricular activities can i partake in while in the military? Does having military experience play a factor in transferring at all?

If you have two years of Community College completed, your ACT/SAT and high school record are pretty much irrelevant. It will all depend on your college transcripts. In order to transfer to your target schools, which are extremely selective, you will first need outstanding grades in your new program. Being in the military, it will be hard to have ECs but, on the other hand, you have an experience which is a bit different than other CC students applying. It is not all about ECs but about the body of experience you bring to the student body.

All that being said, make sure you have alternative schools in mind if you can’t make it into those very competitive schools. You can get an excellent finance degree in many universities.
