I’m currently a sophomore, but I didn’t really think about transferring until this semester. I started some applications, but I never finished them because I figured I passed the scholarship deadlines and I don’t think I would be able to make a decision on time anyway. So I figured I would stick out another 3 semesters at my current univeristy. I would start applying in august for Fall of 2011…but I don’t know if it would make much sense.

After next semester I’ll have 57 credits…and after next winter I’ll have about 80-85 credits. I looked at Purdue (it being my top for right now) and there is no transfer limit. I just need to take 32 credit hours over there.

I figure I could minor, which would give me at least 12 upper level credit hours. I know my math classes do transfer, but they wouldn’t count toward my major at Purdue…so I would have to retake those. And there are some classes over there that I have to take for my major, that aren’t offered at all at my current university. I’m sure it would add up to 32 credit hours (especially if some of my credits don’t transfer at all or don’t count toward my degree)

I really don’t like it here and I want to transfer, but I just don’t know if it would be the smartest decision.

Scholarships for transfer students are rare. I don’t understand why you don’t just send out applications now for the Fall 2010. It’s seems ridiculous to wait for another 2 semesters or more to transfer. At that point, you might as well suck it up and finish out at your current school.

If you really do want to transfer, then send out the applications.

You can apply now and see what results you get. At most school, the deadline for financial aid applications for transfer students is in February or March, so you have plenty of time.

However, if you are getting good financial aid at your current school, perhaps it makes sense to stay there for several semesters, accumulate as many credits as you can, and transfer to a school such as Purdue that accepts senior-level transfers.

I’ve been on and off about applying. I started my application but I never finished it. If I applied and got in for Fall 2010, I don’t think I would go anyway. I will not be able to file for financial aid on time. I already know I will not be able to. I would also be an out of state student.

I really want to transfer. I’ve done my research but I’m not so sure what would make the most sense.

Some parts of the university website say I need 75% of my school work done there to be awarded a degree. Some say I only need 32 credit hours worth of UPPER level courses. Other parts just say that I only need 32 credit hours. I’ve been meaning to call them, but I really want to write a full set of questions before I start asking questions.

If I stayed at my current university, I would have to spend about 3-4 more semesters after my junior year anyway (I’m a double major…but if I transfer I would only pick one)

Although, I’m curious to know if Purdue would accept me as a senior transfer.

You generally have to have a really good reason for transferring if you’ve already started into your major coursework and are a junior/senior. That should probably be your first question to ask an admissions rep, whether they’ll accept a senior transfer.
