I am currently a freshman at SUNY ESF in Syracuse. I have only been here two months but have had a lot of trouble being happy. I don’t know if this is the place for me. I struggle with mental illness and find it hard to stay happy where I am. I was thinking of transferring to my local community college (in the SUNY system) for a semester and then transferring somewhere else for my sophomore year. What are your thoughts on this?
The problem most likely isn’t your current institution. Before making any rash decisions, you should seek help, and get to the root cause of your mental health issues.
Lots of people transfer home after a first semester. There’s nothing wrong with that. But you should plan to stay put until you finish your associates degree. You will have better options then.
