Scenario: I’m transferring from one Community College to another after taking a gap year off after having issues with being able to prioritize school and get good grades. I ended up performing very poorly for a whole year of college after moving down to Portland. I took Calculus ll three times, (1 Withdrawal and 2 F’s) Physics 211 twice (1 Withdrawal and 1 F) and took Computer Science: C++ twice (1 D and 1 F). I took another 5 courses with grades ranging all from Bs to Cs. I never had an issue with school until moving down to Portland. I took the gap year to fix my own problems that were causing me to fail and perform at the level that I did. I just recently moved back up to my Washington State, about a 5 minute walk away from school that I’ll be transferring back to.
Question: This is probably a really dumb question to ask, but I’ve asked family members and friends and have received different answers. But should I be divulging the whole scenario above, as to why I performed at such a poor level, and how I’ve been working on fixing the issues that were causing that through the gap year, or just email my advisor just the general questions regarding the transfer process of my credits. The reason I ask is this is because I know that advisors hear these scenarios often as I’m aware there are students out there that have struggled academically, and I’m curious if it’s something they care to hear about when being emailed by students or if they would rather just get you back on track of going back to school and getting all credits transferred over without hearing the whole story.
