My son has about 15 credits from 5 classes he took a few years ago at CSUDH. We are having a hard time getting a hold of anyone at the UCR transfer center , so I thought I would ask here if anyone knew if those credits would transfer. He is now at a community college that will transfer, so most of his credits would be from there. I guess my question is: should we try to transfer his credits to UCR? Or will they not accept them and instead transfer those credit to the CC to get them on his transcript so they are then accepted when he applies to UCR?
You have to put those grades/courses on the UC app. Whether or not they transfer over will depends on the UC he attends.
Regarding crediting them to his CC, you’d still have to list them on the UC app and send a separate transcript from CSUDH.
When transferring, the destination college will evaluate transfer credit from each source, so all prior colleges’ transcripts (and AP or IB score reports, if applicable) need to be sent.
It doesn’t work that way. Even if a CC lists those courses on his transcript as classes taken elsewhere and matches them up with equivalent courses at the CC, he won’t get credit for them at a UC that way. He’s going to have to supply a transcript from CSUDH if he wants credit for them and its up to UC to decide whether credit is given.
The UCs do not tell you in advance which courses at 4-year colleges will transfer, although you can make an educated guess by using ASSIST to see what courses they match up to at the CC, and then seeing via ASSIST if UC schools have articulation agreements listing those courses. Assist is at http://www.assist.org/web-assist/welcome.html
Thank you for the feedback. It is great to get some feedback because we cannot get a hold of a transfer couneslor at all up at UCR to help is with this. Any advice on how to get in to see one?
Also, Using Assist, it seems at least 3 of the 5 courses correspond with the CC, so we would be OK there, but it is the remaining two that are up in the air. Thank you for the perspective and assistance!
