transferring from a LAC to the UC system

i was wondering if anybody has successfully transferred from a liberal arts college to the UC system. i ran into a dead end: none of my credits from three years at a liberal arts college fulfill IGETC requirements (as determined by a local community college). it’s frustrating how they want me to take beginning algebra when i have already taken calculus in high school, for example. should i apply to the UCs, or is it pretty much a lost cause?

How many units do you have from your LAC? If you go over certain amount of units from your LAC and CC, you reach senior standing and I think the UCs have strict policies for this.
You don’t necessarily have to complete the IGETC for transfer to some UCs.
I’d say go to a counselor in your situation. Your case needs to be carefully evaluated.

i have 68 units, no problem with senior standing.

it was actually a UCLA admission rep who told me to have my transcript evaluated by a community college (el camino). they won’t touch it themselves unless i’ve already been admitted.

If you have already spent three years at your LAC and are more than halfway towards your degree you should really think twice about entering the minefield of not going over the credit limit for senior status, establishing yourself as a CCC applicant rather than a transfer from a four year school and getting credits transferred over to the UC if you get accepted at one. Unless there is some real compelling reason for wanting to have a Bachelors degree from a UC it would seem the best thing for you would be to finish your undergraduate degree at the LAC and then apply to the UCs for graduate school if you really want to study at a UC.
