<p>I am from Florida and graduated in 2007 and I’m currently a sophomore at NYU. A lot of times, I love the school and environment. I have no problems with the classes—all my professors are great, I’m doing well in everything, etc. However, sometimes I really just miss home and get so tired of the city. I’ve been contemplating transferring to UCF so I will be about an hour and a half from home, and I’ve always liked the Orlando area. I’m really unsure of everything right now, and I’m thinking of things such as the prestige of my degree when I eventually graduate, how UCF is relatively “free” compared to NYU…</p>

<p>One thing you might consider is how many credits will UCF transfer from NYU for your major. I knew someone who transferred from John Hopkins and had to retake some math and science courses that were not precisely the same as required for their UCF major.</p>
<p>If I were homesick and UCF had my major for practically “free”, I would seriously contemplate transferring to complete my undergraduate degree especially if I did not lose or waste a lot of credits I had already completed.</p>
<p>Honestly, college is what you make it. I think that if you are that unbearably homesick and you don’t mind losing credit hours (because you will, just don’t know how many) then transferring is something you might want to consider. </p>
<p>Now in regards to the prestige of the degree, UCF is a very good school and it is climbing in recognition, but it is still considered a third tier school. If you get a degree from UCF and you work hard, you are going to experience success. In regards to graduate school and finding jobs, however, it can make a difference. Basically you can have the same exact resume and interview as a person from NYU, and when it will come down to it they will get chosen just because of the reputation of the school. But still, it really doesn’t matter about your undergraduate degree these days…</p>
<p>So I think the real question becomes “How much do I care about the title of NYU?” You will do just fine here at UCF just might have to work harder to get recognized.</p>
