I’m a high school senior in Pennsylvania and I’ve been accepted to Edinboro University with multiple scholarships. My father is in the military and has given me his GIBill allowing me 2 free years of college at a state school (not including any out of state costs). My mother and brother are planning to move to Florida this summer and I was thinking about taking a gap year to establish residency and then attend a school in Florida; University of Florida, UCF, UWF, UNF. I have decided that I cannot depend or rely on my family to stick to this plan nor can i rest my future on uncertainty. So my question is would it be realistic for me to attend Edinboro for the first two years and then transfer to one of the Florida school listed above? Please no one tell me to just attend all 4 years at edinboro because I don’t want to go there at all but since i can go basically for free I would be stupid to decline. I’ve lived in PA for 13 years and I want nothing more than to get the hell out. So some friendly, insightful advice would be very helpful!

I would take the free 2 years and then transfer to a Florida school. Right now, your GPA and scores are not competitive for UCF or UF, so if those are your top choices then definitely consider Edinboro. Don’t take a gap year, since you will still have to apply as a freshman after the gap year, and your stats will still be the same. Applying as a transfer gives you time to get a really high college GPA that outweighs your ok high school performance.

Just curious, I noticed you didn’t put FSU on your list. I think FSU would also be a very good school for you to transfer to.

I included UF because that is kind of my dream school but I realize I have a very slim chance getting in. I figured FSU would be just as out of reach. I’d be happy to attend any of those schools. But which ever has the best art program, obviously, would be my first choice regardless of my being able to get in realistically. @camover
