Transferring from private college to UC

I am a freshman currently attending the University of Redlands. I like it here but it is quite expensive and I find myself questioning why I am paying this much when I could go to a better academic school for less money, such as most UCs. I don’t know what my GPA is exactly but I am guessing it is in the 3.6-3.9 range. If I maintain a GPA along those lines through sophomore year would I have a good chance at being admitted to a UC, namely UCSB? Or would I need to transfer to a CC and do TAG to have any sort of chance at all.
Thanks!

Well the deadline to apply is in half an hour unless you want to wait a whole extra year.

If you can maintain a 3.7-3.9 I would say you have a chance of transferring into UCSB.

If you want to apply, remember USCB doesn’t read personal statements.

The deadline to apply for UCSB you mean? I’ve only completed one semester at this school and I understand you need 60 UC transferrable credits to get accepted so I don’t think I’m eligible as of now, right?

Ya you are correct. You could always drop-out and attend SBCC then transfer to UCSB.

I’d prefer to stay here if possible because I am really not sure what I plan on majoring in. Do you know if credits from a private school such as UoR are UC transferrable?

It depends. If the classes you take match up closely enough to a UC class you get credit for it. “Closely enough” is the decision of the UC that you enroll in, and furthermore they do not do advance evaluation before you enroll. On the other hand at a CC you can use the Assist website to see what courses the UC and CSU systems have agreed to give credit for.

How is staying there going to be any better than going to a community college? You can be just as unsure about your future major at a CC and pay far less per semester while you figure it out.
