Santa Clara University has been my favorite university for quite some time now. I was unfortunately denied admission, but regardless I’m still interested in attending SCU. I live in the Silicon Valley and I’m going into business, which is why I want to attend SCU so much. I was accepted to SJSU and that seems to be my best decision if I take the four year route as of now. I was wondering what my chances are if I were to attend SJSU for a year or two and then transfer to SCU? I have family who attended SCU by transferring from a CC, but what are the odds of me transferring from SJSU? I’ve heard that transferring from a CSU to a UC is almost impossible, but I’ve never heard much about a private because each private university has their own individual requirements, but if anyone has any info about this please let me know. It’s an extremely hard decision for me because I am extremely disappointed with my options and I feel as if I’ve worked hard enough to attend a 4 year. I don’t want to attend a CC because I want to be able to get that college experience that everyone talks about. I also feel as if I were to attend a four year university I’d be in a better atmosphere compared to at CC for two years. Of course if I have a better chance at transferring from a CC to SCU then I’ll definitely consider a CC… Thank you.
https://www.scu.edu/admission/undergraduate/transfer-students/qualifying-for-admission/ indicates that SCU does not prefer either 2-year or 4-year schools from which transfer applicants come from.

Hi! I have many friends and classmates that both attend Santa Clara, SJSU, and some of the local community colleges.
First I think you will need to consider your major into account on when deciding on if you go to SJSU or your local community college. Look on what each major requires.
Second, wherever you attend meet with your guidance counselor right away and tell them your plan. Especially at both institutions CC and SJSU. SJSU is also a huge school so you will want to communicate with your guidance counselor immediately. In a CC and a state school you will need to be very proactive. If you go a CC make sure to ask if your credits transfer over to SCU.
Third, if you went to SJSU I am going to assume you will live in the dorms, (Inferred from the true college experience). CC’s people commute and there’s not much of a campus life. However, that can be good since you can focus on your studies.
I have a classmate right now that is a freshman at SFSU and is looking to transfer into a private 4 year in SoCal. Unlike going from a CC to a CSU or UC, private colleges will often take transfers for their sophomore year. While CSU and UC usually will only take junior transfers in.
I think it really depends on your major and what you value more, true college experience vs commuter. What do you think will help you thrive more in?
