Transferring into Penn

Hi guys,

I am strongly thinking of transferring to the University of Pennsylvania from a top 30 Liberal Arts college as an English/Creative Writing major. The classes look absolutely amazing. However, I have a couple of quick questions:

How much will it help me to have taken classes at UPenn before transferring? My current institution has a plan that, should you desire an incredibly obscure course that is not available in our catalog (or our brother school’s) we can Penn courses with open spots. I’m especially curious since I got a class at Penn, and it’s the most exciting and amazing class I’ve taken thus far. This class alone is enough to make Penn into my first choice.

I’ve been plagued by serious health trouble throughout my life, and my mother has had significant problems with her health for the past 5 years. Not only do I have evidence to support these problems, this evidence also comes from the University of Pennsylvania’s healthcare system. Will the fact that I have been deemed an unusual case by Penn’s own system give validity to my struggle in the admissions office or no?

Thanks Guys!

truthfully, its a numbers game… have a really high gpa and sat score and good reason to switch and you’ll prob get in…

I am 99.99% positive that Penn’s healthcare system does not interact with admissions. It’s just an academic game. If your health problems caused you to suffer academically- then that may be a problem.

The only reason why I bother to bring them up, period, is that 99% of people with this problem have a full recovery, and I fell into the 1% that didn’t…and my current school’s health center had no clue how to handle it, which resulted in mistakes that were extremely detrimental and (on a few occasions) borderline fatal.
