Transferring into UC Berkeley Business School.

I plan on attending Rutgers University (New Brunswick) CAS. I hope to transfer into the UC Berkeley Business School. I know its extremely competitive. Average GPA is around a 3.9. But what would my shot be if I do get a 3.9 at Rutgers and be involved?

pretty low considering because you’d have last priority for the most competitive program at UC Berkeley.

edit: last year, 94 people were accepted to haas. 92 of them were california community college students. Also, even with a 3.9 you’d just be an average applicant.

it’s pretty much a lottery. 2 of my friends (already at berkeley) got in. my friend and i, from community colleges, got rejected (me with a 3.94 and him with a 4.00 and lots of extracurrics).

did you complete your prereqs?

Im not even in college yet, lol.

And Jet, where did you find that?

[University of California: StatFinder](http://statfinder.ucop.edu/statfinder/default.aspx)

use statfinder and look up the total admits to berkeley for business from all transfer applicants and you’ll see 94 were admitted. Then run the table again but only selecting applications from california community colleges and you’ll see 92 were admitted. Therefore, only 2 out of 402 applications that weren’t from community colleges were accepted. So the acceptance rate to haas for someone that doesn’t attend a community college is a little less than .5%.

yes eptar…

Jet most likely found out by the official UC Berkeley stats page. It is extremely difficult to transfer to UC Berkeley Haas School of Business especially if you’re from an out of state school.

Your chances are low even if you have a 3.9 GPA. You must fulfill all the prereqs for Haas School of Business prior to your desired admittence to the program. If you do not plan on finishing the prereq courses during spring quarter/semester of your last year then you will not be even qualifed for review.

And if you’re thinking of transferring to UC Berkeley as a different major such as Economics and try to internally transfer to Haas. It will not work, due to the fact they do not allow you to.

How is that fair? Why choose someone with a 3.7 at a CC over someone with a 3.7 at a University?

And where do you specifcially find the Business on that site? I can only get to the Berkeley campus

i heard that the earlier you complete your prereqs, even with a 3.9 gpa, the higher the chance you have of getting in, because most people push calc II until the last semester or their english class to the last semester

Id have a better shot at Stanford… lol or Columbia

Why should they give you preference? California taxpayers pay for the UC system.

Under applicant characteristics, choose intended field of study.

edit: stanford’s transfer rate is around 2% so yes your chances would be better at stanford probably.

Got this from their site…

Admissions priority is given to students who are U.S. citizens, California residents and are transferring from a California community college. This is according to California’s Master Plan for Higher Education, the University of California Office of the President and the UC Berkeley faculty.

Seems like I only have my US citizenship going for me

well even the international students who goto community college will have higher priority than you so if you really want to goto haas then you’d need to goto a CCC to have a reasonable chance.

I dont even live in California though.

neither did the international students

Ugh, I still can’t find the 92 from CC. I found the 94 accepted on the Haas Site. But using Stat Finder, I cannot find that specific stat.

I select the field of study but it doesn’t change any of the results they show me.

Hmm…

since you don’t believe me heres a picture:
<a href=“ImageShack - Best place for all of your image hosting and image sharing needs”>ImageShack - Best place for all of your image hosting and image sharing needs;

I never said I didnt believe you. I just wanted to understand how to use the site so next year I could look this same information up.

thanks for the pic

It probably won’t change that much next year. It’s fair to have California Community College students have more priority on transferring to the UC system like the previous post has mentioned about taxpayers. Other states do exactly the same thing with their public school system for transfers.

If you really want to transfer to UC Berkeley then go to a California Community College even though you’re out of state.
