I’m currently enrolled at Georgetown University School for continuing studies for an online B. A. in Liberal Studies. I enjoy my professors and classes, I’m worried that my degree won’t get me a specific specialized skillset, which will force me to continue schooling with graduate school.
I’m very interested in having a Business/ Tech career. I was admitted to Villanova University for an online bachelor’s degree in information systems technology for the Fall of 2025. All my previous credits transferred over. I feel this is a fabulous program with a solid Alumni, awesome structure of a program and will allow me to jump into IT right away.
My only issue is the cost between both programs. I’m paying a dirt-cheap price at Georgetown because the program is designed more as a degree completion program to set you up for grad school. I’d be paying around $60,000 total for my Villanova degree as opposed to around $30,000 total for my Georgetown Liberal Studies degree. With Georgetown I’d be forced to go to grad school to get a specialization with it which would cost more in the long run than my Villanova degree overall.
Do you think it's worth staying at Georgetown or transferring to Villanova for a more practical non-traditional adult student bachelor's degree?
if I stayed at Georgetown, I could get an 18-credit concentration in business with my Liberal Studies major. For grad school I’d most likely stack the Georgetown BA with a masters in business analytics or possibly an MBA
Getting an MBA without having quality work experience after your Bachelor’s is a sub-optimal plan. You’ll pay the same as your classmates without the pickup in compensation- i.e. not a good deal for you.
If it were me- I’d be looking at all the ways I can stay at Georgetown, finish on schedule, and get all the value of a Georgetown education under my belt. Can’t imagine that transferring does much for you.
Why are you online? Will this impact your ability to interview or take a job when you finish???
I’m on the west coast. Didn’t feel like moving to D.C. I’m in my second semester at Georgetown with a 4.0 GPA. I think it’s most likely best for me to finish my Georgetown bachelor’s degree, especially for the price I’m currently paying. Use all my Georgetown resources that’s available to me along with the Crawley career center at Georgetown. Classmate networking, along with professor networking as well.
I’ll graduate on time then go get some work experience for a few years. Then decide if Grad school is right for me etc.
