Transferring out after submitting registration deposit?

I have a 2-year degree from a local community college and recently decided to continue my education. I work full time, so I did my research, went to college fairs, talked to college reps, and decided to apply to a state school in the area after being told they offer evening and online courses in my field of study (psychology). I was accepted, and submitted by registration deposit to secure my spot.

A few weeks later, while trying to plan my course schedule for the Fall semester, I was told by a secretary in the psych department that there are very few evening and online psychology courses available (most of them are MWF or TR courses during the day). Not only am I irritated that this is NOT what I was told by a representative of their school, it appears that I may not even be able to attend this university at all as a result of the schedule conflict.

I’m back to looking at other schools in my area that offer psychology programs with evening/online classes, but will I have a problem being that I already paid the deposit? Will there be any negative consequences for me if I can’t attend the original school due to the conflict? Will I have to “transfer” again since I already submitted the deposit, even though I may technically never even start? I’ve never heard of any situation like this, and have no idea how to proceed or what to expect. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

You’re not obligated to attend the school if you don’t want to. Though I should note that you may lose your deposit. Majority of the time it’s non refundable.
