Transferring out and credits?

My daughter in in the midst of a year off from RIT and will transfer out – she was there for 2years but I’m worried about how many of her credits will actually transfer out … She was in the Game Design major … For financial reasons, she can’t really afford to do more than a CUNY (local city university) so won’t be able to get into a game design major as it doesn’t exist.

Does anyone have any info on this?

Can she do a SUNY instead? Stony Brook is suppose to have a really good Comp Sci department, and I know they also have some Gaming courses (possibly for a specialization?). I also don’t know how much travel that would be for your daughter.

As far as transfer credits, I would have her get a copy of her transcript and ask the schools she is considering to evaluate it for her so she knows where she stands.

I know you mentioned financial reasons for attending a CUNY. Are there other reasons for leaving RIT? My son has applied to RIT and I feel it’s important to know the disadvantages of the school as well as the advantages.

Unfortunately game design is a very specific major, which means fewer credits will transfer to a school that doesn’t have a GD program. She will at least be able to get credit for any general CS or humanities and sciences that she did. Get a transcript from the university and send it to wherever she wants to go, they will tell you what they can transfer.
