Transferring out of a good school vs. average school

<p>If I want to transfer colleges after my first year will the school I start at make a big difference in my chances of getting accepted as a transfer student to another school?</p>

<p>For example, will a 3.6 GPA at a somewhat well known school with decent academics be looked at any differently than a 3.6 GPA at a well known school with better academics?</p>

<p>It depends on your target school. Some schools have transfer programs with lots of admits from unknown schools and even CCs. Other schools prefer to take transfers from fellow top-ranked schools.</p>

<p>However, the GPA and compatibility of your course program are going to be the big questions. If you know you want to transfer to a highly selective school, you need to focus on grades first.</p>

The average school would likely be Ithaca or High Point and the well known one is Syracuse.</p>

<p>The transfer admissions office at UNC-CH knows all three of those institutions. Don’t worry about this issue.</p>
