Transferring out of Irvine

I’ll be attending UC Irvine in the fall but I’m going to try to transfer to Rice University in 2 years. In case I don’t get in, can/should I still declare my major at Irvine in my sophomore year? I plan to double major in physics and neurobiology.

why are you even wasting UCI’s time?

give your spot to someone who really wants UCI

Was that necessary? A lot of people transfer out of their colleges and I happen to be one of them. It doesn’t mean I’m not grateful for getting into Irvine. If you would like to argue, please, message me instead.

whats wrong with UCI for doing your major then?

you should be in the general transfer thread. we don’t know anything about some jerry rice.

I don’t need to state my reasons for transferring out. Like everyone here, I posted on this forum for help. I’m sorry if I offended you or anyone else.

If you plan to transfer out, don’t bother to declare your major at UCI, unless declaring your major is the only way to get certain classes that you need to transfer. Otherwise, declaring your major at UCI really won’t do you any good, and may actually require you to take classes that UCI requires, but Rice doesn’t, wasting precious time.

Edit- UCkitty dude what is your problem? The guy is just asking for help, in the UC transfer forum, which is what he is doing.

Thank you, mmsiphone.

Personally, I would take the CC>Rice route. I am an intercampus transfer but I didn’t plan for it to go that way. I wouldn’t have SIR’d to UCSB if I did not have every intention of graduating from there at the time.

All UCKitty asked was why you already know you’re going to transfer out. He asked if the school wasn’t right for your major. This is a totally legit and valid question, simply trying to get more information to help you out. As you said, you came here for help.

This sounds defensive and like UCkitty was a creep for asking in the first place. It’s a pretty common question. Otherwise, it seems odd to people that you’d bother with a UC when you could just go to a CC.

I myself was going to come here asking for your reasons for transferring come to find out you don’t even attend the school yet.

I’m just screwing around…geez its a light moment in our lives right now, lighten up.

@AllFields: It was defensive, I felt like I was being attacked for a second. I was thinking of just attending a cc too, to save money. I’m still unsure. Part of the reason for why I’m going is so that I would still have a place to be if I don’t get into another school. But would it matter if I applied to Rice from a cc or a UC?

Heh. To help me out… 0.o I’m sure it would seem that way when taken out of context.

Dunno about adding Physics…but you can declare neurobio. at UCI after taking Bio Sci. N110. The co-req. for this class is Bio99, which you will take in the Spring quarter of your 2nd year. So yeah…it’s totally possible to declare the major later on…but it’ll be best if you get in early. They don’t take that many people. If you’re gonna add a double major in Physics, just make sure you can finish within four years. As for transferring to Rice, I have no clue lol.

Thanks. :)

You’re going to spend more, work more and probably have a lower GPA going the UCI > Rice route. If you’re set on going to Rice, there’s really no benefit to going to a UC right now and a whole lot of issues with it. Go to a CC instead and even if you change your mind on Rice, you could always transfer to a UC. You won’t have an issue getting into UCI in a couple years with a decent GPA (I got in with a 3.1 a couple years ago.)

Also, I’m not sure if this is true with Rice or not since it’s private, but most universities will look to fill transfer spots with CC students first. Transfers from four year universities (UCI) don’t have priority. Just something to think about.

You are probably better off getting advice on the UCI forum or the Rice forum and not on the UC transfers forum.

Also agree with the CC -> Rice route. Biggest regret was going to a UC and having it not be the fit for me.

What exactly is CC-> Rice?

Community College to Rice rather than going from Irvine to Rice.
