Transferring Schools

I’m going to a very religious (christian) college for the fall 2019 school year. I am going here because I did not get accepted into my top choice. I’m very religious and so is my whole family and this school is great for my faith but it is not strong academically and there is like no diversity… I want to transfer when I’m a sophomore (fall 2020) to a state uni in NY (binghamton) but idk if my credits will be transferred. Because its a religious school, i have to take bible classes freshman year which are mandatory and it might not match up with bing’s. does anyone know if they will accept me even if some of my credits are not “equal”? thanks

Each school will decide for itself if it will take the credits. It is quite possible that some credits will not transfer but I don’t think anyone on CC can give you a definitive answer. When you get accepted to a college as a transfer student I suggest that you ask for an evaluation of your current transcript and in-progress classes and get a determination as to which credits will be accepted and which will not.

As a piece of unsolicited advice I think it is a terrible idea to start one college with the intent of transferring out. This will stand in the way of your making meaningful friendships, developing relationships with professors, and getting involved on campus. Then if your transfer doesn’t work out as planned you will be really stuck. I’d go to the college you enrolled in with the intent of staying all four years. It is fine to throw in a some transfer applications but don’t count on it working out.

Thanks so much!
